Opaline Light is a personal writing site. This page explains, plainly, what data is collected and what is not.
What we collect
If you subscribe to new post notifications: we store your email address in our own database, along with a confirmation status and an unsubscribe link unique to you. That's the entire subscriber record — no name, no other personal information, no tracking of what you read or click.
If you like a post: a small cookie is set in your browser so the site remembers which posts you've liked. This cookie contains no personal information — not your name, not your email, not your IP address. It only remembers a post ID and nothing else.
We do not use analytics trackers, advertising cookies, or any third-party scripts that follow you across the web. We do not collect your IP address for any purpose.
How we use it
Your email is used for exactly one thing: sending you an email when a new post is published, via Postmark, a transactional email service. It is never used for marketing, never sold, and never shared with any third party.
The heart cookie is used for exactly one thing: showing you which posts you've already liked when you return to the site.
Who we share data with
Nobody. Your subscriber email is sent only to Postmark, solely to deliver the notification email itself, and is not used by Postmark for any other purpose. No data is sold, shared, or passed to advertisers, analytics platforms, or any other third party.
How long we keep it
Your subscriber record is kept until you unsubscribe. Unsubscribing is instant and permanent — click the link in any notification email, no account or login required.
The heart cookie lasts up to ten years or until you clear your browser's cookies, whichever comes first.
Your choices
You can decline the heart cookie when prompted; the site still works, your likes simply won't be remembered between visits.
You can unsubscribe from post notifications at any time via the link in any email you receive.
If you'd like your subscriber record deleted outright rather than just unsubscribed, contact us via the contact page and we'll remove it.
